Create a professional looking battery operated LED night light in this design-focused project. Children will understand how electrical circuits work whilst designing, making and evaluating this beautiful night light. A perfect project for Key Stage 2 children!
Description
Each material pack comes with the following components:
- Light base made from MDF
- Light plinth made from redwood
- Acrylic disc (circular and hexagonal in shape)
- Double sided tape
- LED strip (to be soldered)
- 9v battery clip (9v batteries are not supplied)
The base and plinth is suitable for a variety of shaping and finishing techniques (please note we do not provide finishing techniques). In order to attach the LED strip light to the 9v battery clip, it will need to be soldered using a soldering iron and fast melting solder – this can be added at the checkout. Risk assessments for this part of the project will also be provided.
This material pack includes the Hepp DT design portfolio that covers the design, make, evaluate and technical knowledge aspects of the project. In order to etch a design onto the acrylic disc, use a scribe or something with a sharp point to it, such as a compass or nail.
If you wish to shape the base of the light, you will need junior hacksaws and g-clamps – you DO NOT need to do this if you do not have these tools at school. As stated above, the LED strip needs to be soldered to the battery clip. If you do not have a soldering iron and fast melting solder, you can add these items at checkout.
Each material pack comes with sandpaper and PVA wood adhesive as standard.
